With 1 in 5 persons unable to access therapy who need it, our counseling program helps bridge this considerable gap. We also offer bilingual services for Latinos who at 88% have the highest rate of unmet need.

Arden Shore Counseling Center has been offering bilingual counseling to communities in Lake County for nearly 5 years. Through this program, we provide children and families counseling to improve family functioning, address emotional and behavioral disorders, prevent abuse and neglect, and ensure the well-being of the child and family.

We see children and families at our counseling center in Waukegan with issues such us depression, violent behavior, truancy, suicidal thoughts, self-injury, trauma, and separation and loss. Issues such as domestic violence or substance abuse that impact the whole family are also addressed. We also see children who are removed from the home by the State of Illinois because of abuse and neglect or are identified as “at risk” of abuse and neglect.

Through individual and group counseling with children we seek to improve the children’s relationships and behavior at home, at school, and in their communities. We teach anger management skills, increase self esteem and build on the child’s strengths. We also help families understand the disorders they are confronting and develop coping mechanisms like problem solving, parenting techniques, and access to community resources. The services are delivered in the office, at home or in the school to accommodate the various needs of the clients. Therapy plus practical support for the whole family brings families together and achieves positive results.

The majority of clients are referred agencies with which we maintain contracts including the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and Lake County Juvenile Probation. We also accept a limited number of walk-in clients from the community who not referred by these contracting agencies.

The counseling center is open Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Evening and weekend hours are by appointment only. To inquire about our counseling services contact (847) 623-1730 ext. 102.
