Arden Shore recently moved into its new headquarters in Downtown Waukegan, marking the completion of phase one of its $3.5 million dollar capital campaign for a new headquarters and family center.
Key Features of the New Headquarters
- The site more than doubles current capacity, allowing the agency to further address community needs and to establish the family center.
- Access is improved with services now conveniently located where families in need live.
- Design creates a welcoming, nurturing, therapeutic, and educational environment to improve the success of our families.
- Spaces were temporary built out for the family center including a kitchen, dining area and child friendly meeting rooms, until funds can be raised to realize the full vision for the center.
- Annual facility operation costs are lower with the closing down of two other sites
- Arden Shore is contributing to stimulating the local economy of Downtown Waukegan.
Key Features of the Family Center
When funds are raised, we will be able to renovate the lower level of our new facility and fully realize our dream for the family center. The primary goal for the family center is to help children and families to be successful at home, at work, and in other life areas by unifying and strengthening the family. All family programs currently located temporarily on the first floor will be relocated to and expanded upon on the lower level. Highlights include:
- An industrial sized family kitchen that anchors the center as a meeting place and setting for programs.
- Programs for healthy living, school readiness, staying in school, adult and occupational literacy, acculturation, parenting and technology.
- Involvement of all family members into each program to strengthen family bonds in positive and meaningful ways.
- Recreational, cultural and healthy eating opportunities designed to be fun, educational and to further strengthen family ties.
- Family advisory council that evaluates programs to ensure community accountability.
- Programs provided in the primary language of the participants with a sensitivity to the cultural differences of our families.
- Family friendly evening and weekend hours and daycare.
- 500 clients to be served at any given time when center is fully operational.
